Matt Kravchuk, a sophomore at The Holy Family University in Philly, has filed a police report against head coach John O'Connor claiming he was assaulted during practice.
My FOX Philly was able to obtain the video tape, and its tough to disagree with the player's claims. The coach levels the player with a shoulder and then kicks him (or at least makes contact with his foot) while the player is on the ground. Afterwards, he berates the player, harassing him about bleeding and then kicking him out of practice:
There is also a level of physical contact you need to expect between a coach and a player. If a coach wants to get in and demonstrate a drill or a move to a player, there is always the chance that someone can get hit with an errant elbow or sprain an ankle.
I don't know if this legally qualifies as assault, but it certainly is enough that Mr. O'Connor should no longer be allowed to coach this basketball team.
